UI/UX Case Study:
Designing an effective online dating experience utilizing dating coaches
ALOHA — designed to help users feel confident and optimistic about modern love, ensuring a great chance of making a lasting and genuine connection with someone online.

THE CHALLENGE
GOALS
-
Meet the needs of working singles using online dating apps to find romantic partners while reducing frustration
-
Design an iSO app that allows users to easily search partners, dating coaches, and therapists
-
Create a meditative UI kit

1. DEFINE
Romance has gone to the cloud — online dating has increasingly become a more popular way to meet a future partner. However, it’s not as simple and fun as finger swiping left or right! I wanted to learn why working singles are feeling frustrated when using online dating apps to find prospective partners.

Meet Alice, a 35-year-old, online dating app user who feels frustrated by unsuccessful connections formed through traditional dating apps services.
2. REARCH
How might we……
-
Create a better search engine to easily pair users with potential partners while balancing their busy romantic and work lives?
-
Connect dating coaches to help users understand the behaviors to enable them to reach their interpersonal goals?

3. IDEATE

& DESIGN SYSTEM

5. USER TESTING
I conducted user testing with a high-fidelity prototype on a mobile phone to see how users would complete certain tasks. Feedback indicated the hamburger menu placement on the left or right affected intuitiveness for users. The goal was to create a smooth experience for everyone in finding their right dating coach.

Test the accessibility

CONCLUSION
The motivation for developing ALOHA was to ease user frustration caused by traditional dating apps services and renew hope in the prospects of finding a partner.
